New angle grinder generation by Metabo: high-quality grinding, cutting, de-rusting and polishingExcellent performance and far more powerGeneration change: Metabo is replacing its compact class angle grinder range with 12 new models: ergonomic design and even more power / safety switch protects user / innovative air flow concept and sophisticated dust protection technology / unique feature of a mechanical disc brake / Metabo’s robust long life Marathon Motor. Nürtingen, October 2007. According to a statement from Metabo, it is upgrading its first-class angle grinder range and introducing a new generation of compact machines with improved handling. This will likely be with a compact and ergonomic design. The new design features a pronounced necking at the front and rear ends of the housing and provides a secure grip for all types of work. In addition, a specially developed release function on the safety switch prevents the machine from being switched on inadvertently, says the manufacturer for the autumn 2007 launch. As well as its elegant shape and user-friendly operation, the entire twelve machine models that are all made in Germany and have “significantly more power” are a real talking point, says the manufacturer. This is based on an innovative air flow concept which cools the motor more efficiently. The resulting reserve power has a noticeably positive impact on its power and capacity. In practise, this means the user can work faster and with less effort. The basis of the new air flow concept is a diagonal fan which significantly improves the cooling power due to a far larger volume of air being circulated. Incorporated into the design are new air duct channels directing exhaust air forward and away from the user’s eyes through front mounting exit ports. Counteracting dust: labyrinth seals with double sealing lips The sturdy die-cast aluminium gear housing ensures a long service life. The robust Metabo marathon motor is also equipped with an armature protection grid guard for effective dust protection. The sophisticated dust protection technology also has a tough resin powder-coating on the field coil, cable covers, labyrinth seals with double sealing lips on the ball bearings for protecting against abrasive dust, as well as auto-stop carbon brushes encapsulated in their own cup housing. Furthermore, a fully encapsulated switch prevents electrical sparkovers caused by an accumulation of metal dust, continues the manufacturer. As “tried and tested equipment criteria”, the Nürtingen based electrical power tool specialist refers to the S-automatic torque limiting clutch for protecting the user against dangerous recoil, the vibration dampening VibraTech (MVT) side handle and the “Quick” system for changing discs without tools (optional depending on the model). On the subject of plus points, there is also the mechanical and therefore extremely reliable new disc brake system. According to the manufacturer, this “truly innovative feature” in this performance class ensures safe handling for the “WB 11-125 Quick” and “WB 11-150 Quick” models by bringing the grinding disc to a halt within three seconds of switching off the machine. Brakes for safety-sensitive areas The new angle grinder models provide a wide range of applications for professionals from the metalworking industry, metal processing business, shipbuilding and assembly operations as well as companies in the building trade. In combination with the extensive range of accessories, they are suitable for cutting metal profiles, stone, concrete and ceramic, for grinding, de-rusting and de-coating metals, as well as polishing metal and stone. Models fitted with brakes (available at dealers from January 2008) are especially recommended for working in safety-sensitive areas or situations, such as those found in the construction of containers or in dockyards, the Metabo developers point out. Last but not least, a look at the technical data of the next generation shows “continuously glowing results”. The torque lies between 2.2 and 3.5 Nm depending on the model. The machines have a rated output of 800 to 1,400 Watt in one power output of 490 to 800 Watt and work with disc diameters from 100 to 150 mm. The idle speed is 3,000 to 10,000 rpm. The VibraTech (MVT) anti-vibration grip and the protective cover against sparks are standard in the product range, providing the comfort required when operating the machine on a daily basis. It fulfils all the current standards and can be adjusted or removed without the use of tools. Downloads: fileadmin/metabo/_countries/de/pix/Presse/Metabo_MHE_96.jpg
