“PowerMaxx Li”: Energetic cordless driver drill with outstanding stamina

More performance with battery power
New cordless driver drill from Metabo / powerful two-speed gearbox for screw driving and drilling / comes with quick-action drill chuck / one lithium-ion battery power pack / 7.2 Volt voltage and 2.2 Amp-hours capacity / convenient and safe: 19 torque stages plus maximum setting / instant spindle stop and smooth-start function / ergonomic design and sturdy housing / innovative charging technology
Nürtingen.  Metabo has packed the new cordless driver drill with a whole range of useful features. The “PowerMaxx Li” is not only ideal for cordless fastening of screws. With its quick-action drill chuck, the power tool can also be used to drill quickly and accurately. According to the manufacturer, one reason for its outstanding performance can be found in the efficient two-speed gearbox that transmits the motor power very favourably, whilst also adjusting the torque and speed exactly to the specific application. This means that the first gear setting, with a maximum speed of 250 rpm, is particularly suitable for driving large screws, whilst the second gear, with a speed of up to 750 rpm, is ideally suited for drilling and fastening small screws into soft materials.
A particular highlight: the new power tool operates with a high-grade lithium-ion (Li-Ion) 7.2 V rechargeable battery, which offers many advantages in cordless operation. This future-orientated power pack is unusually compact, yet at 2.2 Ah (amp hours) it is extremely powerful and almost immune to self-discharge. In addition, none of its capacity is lost when it is recharged after being partly discharged (aka the memory effect). A further useful advantage of this modern power source is that the “PowerMaxx Li” is designed with extremely compact dimensions, making it much easier to guide and control than conventional machines with nickel cadmium (NiCd) batteries.

A useful helper weighing in at only 730 grams
In view of its comparably low weight – 730 grams including battery – with the new cordless driver drill it is not only possible to work more effectively than with tools offered by the competition: this new model can do much more according to the Nürtingen-based producer. For instance, with full battery it can drive up to 1250 size 3 mm x 20/25 mm screws into soft wood and with size 5 mm x 50 mm screws it makes light work of up to 385. Furthermore, the all-purpose tool can drill 6.5 mm and 3 mm diameter respectively in soft wood, hard wood, plastics and sheet steel. This makes it the ideal tool for all fastening jobs at home, in the car and even for assembling furniture.
Further advantages of the power tool include the handy adjustment range with 19 torque stages plus maximum setting of 9 Nm (soft) and 16 Nm (hard) as well as an integrated spindle stop function, which also allows the power tool to be used manually. The instant stop feature additionally prevents over tightening of the screw heads by the machine over running. A further advantage is the soft start function, which makes it easy to start off even the smallest screws at low speed. For more rugged applications, a sturdy aluminium die-cast housing effectively protects the two-speed gearbox with its metal gearwheels. The benefit of metal gearwheels is that they greatly extend the service life of the tool. The ergonomic design and completely rubber-covered handle ensure concentration can be devoted to the many applications without the risk of fatigue.
Awarded the “Energy Star”
Metabo also claims that it takes the supplied battery charger only one hour to recharge the Li-Ion battery. The low standby power intake ensures economical power consumption. The company, based near Stuttgart, was awarded an “Energy Star” for this feature. Other functions, such as individual cell monitoring and cell balancing, also set new standards. These innovative features ensure optimum charging whilst guaranteeing an identical fill quantity of the individual cells. This extends the service life of the battery and maintains the power performance at the same high level. The intelligent charging technology strategy also includes a temperature sensor to prevent overheating, a pressure-proof housing and LEDs to indicate the charge status or signal a defect.
The “PowerMaxx Li” including battery pack comes in a practical tool case with space for the charger, the quick-action drill chuck and the 38-piece set of bits that is also included in the price.

Thanks to a lithium-ion rechargeable battery with 2.2 amp hours capacity, the 7.2 Volt power tool boasts outstanding stamina. According to the manufacturer, with its battery full, it can effortlessly drive up to 1250 size 3 mm x 20/25 mm screws into soft wood and with size 5 mm x 50 mm screws it makes light work of up to 385. When the power levels begin to drop after continuous use, the new power tool can be fully recharged within only one hour using the battery charger supplied.
