Clean sweep for Metabo

2007 an impressive awards year / Honours go to company, brand and products / Effectiveness acclaimed / Neutral recognition of value added / Medium-sized company sets industry standards
Nürtingen, November 28, 2007. For Metabo, 2007 is a year of outstanding achievement. The German power tools specialist reported that it "did exceptionally well on qualitatively and quantitatively grounds" in several different competitions and initiatives. Peter Hartung also emphasized the wide range of neutral rankings: They document Metabo's effectiveness as a company, brand and producer, explained the Department Manager, Marketing and Public Relations for the independent medium-sized manufacturer.

In prestigious company
The manufacturer and its products were awarded the following prizes and honours in 2007:
  • Metabo was named one of Germany's 100 most innovative small and medium-sized companies in the  Top 100 comparison. The project is headed by Lothar Späth, the former state governor of Baden-Württemberg, while the academic analysis and evaluation is conducted by a team overseen by Nikolaus Franke, a professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration. Over 280 companies competed for the innovation prize in 2007. And, according to Peter Hartung, Metabo is already in the running as a finalist for the next Top 100 contest in 2008.
  • In 2007, Handelsblatt, a business newspaper, and Econ Verlag, a publisher, launched a competition to find the "best corporate communication program" in the German-speaking world based on seven individual categories and one main field. In this debut year, 130 organizations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland sent in over 300 entries for review by a jury of experts. For the organisers, Strategic Corporate Communications was the "pearl of the disciplines" – every entrant had to demonstrate the use of a single overarching strategy that integrated several communications instruments. Only nine out of the 300 entries  were eventually nominated for the Econ Award for Corporate Communications, explained Hartung.

As one of them, Metabo was in prestigious company, including such high-profile multinationals as Henkel, Linde, Siemens, T-Systems and ThyssenKrupp. In the end, the experts decided not to single out just one company, but praise all nine for their efforts. Peter Hartung noted, "We have every reason to be pleased with this outcome. Obviously, the professionalism of our "Nahaufnahmen" strategy more than compensated for the relative modesty of our budget compared to the vast sums spent by these major corporations." That applied equally to Metabo's corporate film, also entitled "Nahaufnahmen", which was shortlisted in the competition's film category.
  • The brand's appeal and dynamic is reflected by the "Superbrand Germany 2007" award. This was the third time that Germany's "100 best corporate and product brands" were honoured in this way. Once again Metabo passed a tough screening process with flying colours: Over 1,000 candidates took to the field in total. The winner's list was "packed with major names", adding credibility to this twelve-year-old international competition. Metabo felt right at home in a winner's circle that included the likes of adidas, ADAC, Deutsche Bank, Lufthansa, Postbank and Wüstenrot – to name but a few "superbrands". Of special interest, "Kaiser" Franz Beckenbauer, the legendary footballer was also included in the winning group – the first time a person was named a “superbrand”.

Four awards and three nominations
  • "Excellent" was Hartung's description of the 2007 product credentials list. For example, the "P'7911" multihammer designed together with the Porsche Design Group, the BHE 20 Compact rotary hammer and the HS 85/86 hedge trimmers were all nominated for the 2008 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany. Dubbed the "prize of prizes" in the design industry, this competition is the flagship program for design excellence run by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. Having three Metabo products nominated is already a great accolade to Metabo’s 2007 success.
  • Two of the power tool specialist's creations also brought home an internationally recognised prize: the red dot award: product design 2007. The BHE 20 Compact rotary hammer and the HS 85/86 hedge trimmers were both awarded the prize from the jury at the Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen's annual competition.
  • For the compact PowerMaxx Li cordless screwdriver with advanced lithium-ion technology, the year it was launched was also the year it won its first award. The new tool earned a "Focus in Silver" prize for its exceptional ergonomics at the 2007 Baden-Württemberg International Design Award of the Design Center Stuttgart.
  • Already a public favourite, the "P'7911" multihammer caused another stir in 2007: This joint project between Metabo and Porsche Design won the Plus X Award in the Design category. The technology competition – Europe's largest, according to the organizer – was designed to send out a "clear signal" in favour of brand quality and against cheap, low-quality goods in eleven product groups. Clad in striking aluminium/charcoal and featuring an exclusive topside handle position, this innovative premium model differentiated itself particularly well, noted the Nürtingen specialist.

Success through teamwork
In sum, Metabo holds the rains in the high and medium-profile awards in and outside the power tools industry as "proof positive of our performance and value". They are just as useful for market partners as for demanding professional and home users. Hartung believes excellent teamwork is one of the main reasons for this driving force. "Our 'clean sweep' reflects the dedication and know-how of Metabo's in-house experts on the one hand, and our external specialists on the other. That includes the agencies RTS Riegerteam for branding and Linnigpublic for PR support. I am confident that we can only achieve these kinds of results with the right communication and cooperation."
